Sic Bo payout figures only mean something next to the chance of each bet, and three dice make that chance easy to count. Three dice with six faces give 216 equally likely outcomes, so every bet is a count out of 216. Pays here come from Macau’s published rules for the game, which its gaming regulator publishes in Chinese and Portuguese, and the sums sit beside them. The same three-dice logic runs the color game dice odds, and the wider baraha games hub for card and table play lists the rest of the tables.
How to play Sic Bo
A dealer shakes three dice under a cover, you stake on the layout, and the result is read once the cover lifts.
- Place your stake on one or more areas of the layout before the bell ends betting.
- The dealer shakes the dice and lifts the cover.
- The three faces are read, and a round with stacked or tilted dice is void and repeated.
- Winning areas are paid, and every other stake is collected.
- Betting opens again for the next round.
Sic Bo payout by bet, from Macau’s published rules
The table gives each bet’s pay as printed in Macau’s published rules, and its chance out of 216. “Pays 1” means 1 to 1.
| Bet | Pays (to 1) | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| Small (total 4 to 10) | 1 | 105/216, 48.61% |
| Big (total 11 to 17) | 1 | 105/216, 48.61% |
| Chosen number, 1 / 2 / 3 dice | 1 / 2 / 3 | 91/216, 42.13% |
| Chosen triple | 150 | 1/216, 0.46% |
| Any triple | 24 | 6/216, 2.78% |
| Three chosen faces together | 30 | 6/216, 2.78% |
| Two chosen faces together | 5 | 30/216, 13.89% |
| Three of four chosen numbers | 7 | 24/216, 11.11% |
| Odd or Even total | 1 | 108/216, 50% |
Small and Big lose on any triple, because a triple takes both bets under Macau’s text. The rules also state the totals bets, which the next section prices. Your table’s own payout board is the number that applies to your stake, and some tables vary the layout.
Sic Bo odds: the 216 outcomes by total
A total is the sum of the three dice, and totals near 10 and 11 can be made in more ways than totals near the ends. The totals 3 and 18 are the two triples and are not offered as total bets.
| Total | Ways out of 216 | Chance |
|---|---|---|
| 4 or 17 | 3 | 1.39% |
| 5 or 16 | 6 | 2.78% |
| 6 or 15 | 10 | 4.63% |
| 7 or 14 | 15 | 6.94% |
| 8 or 13 | 21 | 9.72% |
| 9 or 12 | 25 | 11.57% |
| 10 or 11 | 27 | 12.50% |
Each row counts one total, and the pair share the same count. The 14 bettable totals take 3 + 6 + 10 + 15 + 21 + 25 + 27 on each side, which is 107 ways a side, and the two triples, 3 and 18, make up the other 2.
Sic Bo house edge: pay against chance
The edge on a bet that returns your stake plus the pay is the pay times the ways to win, minus the ways to lose, over 216. Macau’s rules print the total pays below.
| Bet | Pays (to 1) | Edge |
|---|---|---|
| Total 4 or 17 | 50 | 29.17% |
| Total 5 or 16 | 18 to 30 | 47.22% to 13.89% |
| Total 6 or 15 | 14 to 18 | 30.56% to 12.04% |
| Total 7 or 14 | 12 | 9.72% |
| Total 8 or 13 | 8 | 12.50% |
| Total 9 or 12 | 6 | 18.98% |
| Total 10 or 11 | 6 | 12.50% |
For total 7, the sum is (15 x 12 - 201) / 216 = minus 21/216, which is 9.72 percent. For Small, the sum is (105 x 1 - 111) / 216 = minus 2.78 percent. The other bets from the previous table work out to 7.87 percent on a chosen number, 30.09 percent on a chosen triple, 30.56 percent on any triple, 13.89 percent on three chosen faces, 16.67 percent on two chosen faces and 11.11 percent on three of four numbers. Odd and Even at 1 to 1 on 108 of 216 come to 0 percent as the rule text reads, and 2.78 percent at a table that also loses them on a triple.
The lowest-edge bets are Small, Big and, under Macau’s wording, Odd and Even. The totals near the ends of the range cost the most, and the choice of total matters more than the stake. For a table that uses a range, find the figure on its board and use it in the same sum.
Sic Bo combinations: how 216 outcomes group
Counting the faces rather than the order gives 56 combinations, and they come in three shapes.
| Shape | Combinations | Ordered outcomes |
|---|---|---|
| Triple (4-4-4) | 6 | 6 x 1 = 6 |
| Pair and a single (4-4-2) | 30 | 30 x 3 = 90 |
| Three different faces (1-3-5) | 20 | 20 x 6 = 120 |
The ordered outcomes add to 6 + 90 + 120 = 216. That is why three chosen faces together land 6 times in 216 while a chosen triple lands once.
For a table with a different layout, count its bet the same way before you stake, and keep play inside limits you set from the responsible play rules for staking page. A card table with a similar one-sheet arithmetic is covered under Dragon Tiger odds from a 52-card deck. You must be 21 or older to play for real money.
FAQ
What is the best bet in Sic Bo?
On Macau's published pays, Small and Big keep 2.78 percent each, because a triple loses them. Odd and Even pay 1 to 1 on exactly 108 of 216 outcomes, and Macau's text names only Small and Big as losing on a triple, which makes them 0 percent as written. Check how your table treats triples before you choose.
What are the odds of rolling a triple in Sic Bo?
A chosen triple, such as three fours, lands once in 216, which is 0.46 percent. Any triple lands 6 times in 216, which is 2.78 percent. Macau's published rules pay 150 to 1 and 24 to 1.
Do Sic Bo pays change between casinos?
They can, and the totals bets in particular are given as a range in Macau's rules. Your table's payout board is the number that applies to your stake. Put its pays into the edge sum on this page.
