Setting thirteen cards into three hands only works when you know which hand beats which, and that is what the Pusoy card ranking tells you. This page covers the order of single cards and suits, then every five-card combination with the count that explains its place. It belongs to the wider set of baraha games and their rules played in a lobby’s card section, and the rules of the set-three-hands game itself sit on the Pusoy Go rules page.

Pusoy card ranking: card values and suits

Single cards rank in the usual poker order in the three-hand game, with the Ace on top and the 2 at the bottom. Pusoy Dos, the shedding game with the same Philippine roots, turns the order around so that the 2 is the highest card.

Three-hand PusoyAce2

Suits only matter when two cards of equal rank meet. The common Philippine suit order runs spades, hearts, clubs, diamonds from highest to lowest. Your table’s rules screen says whether suits break ties or whether equal hands simply tie, so read it before the first deal.

Pusoy combinations from high card to royal flush

Five-card combinations rank by how rare they are in a 52-card deck, which holds 2,598,960 different five-card hands (52 times 51 times 50 times 49 times 48 divided by 120). The rarer a hand, the higher it ranks.

CombinationHands in the deckChance
High card1,302,54050.12 percent
One pair1,098,24042.26 percent
Two pair123,5524.75 percent
Three of a kind54,9122.11 percent
Straight10,2000.39 percent
Flush5,1080.20 percent
Full house3,7440.14 percent
Four of a kind6240.02 percent
Straight flush360.0014 percent
Royal flush40.00015 percent

Read the table from the top: each row beats every row above it. A few counts come from short sums. A full house is 13 ranks for the triple times 4 ways to pick three suits times 12 ranks for the pair times 6 ways to pick two suits, which is 3,744. Four of a kind is 13 ranks times 48 possible fifth cards, which is 624.

Pusoy combinations inside the three hands

The three hands do not hold the same combinations, and the difference changes how you set them.

  1. The front hand holds three cards: a high card, a pair or three of a kind only.
  2. The middle hand holds five cards and can hold any of the ten combinations.
  3. The back hand holds five cards and must be at least as strong as the middle hand.
  4. The middle hand must be at least as strong as the front hand.

The front hand has its own odds. Of the 22,100 three-card hands in a 52-card deck, 52 are three of a kind (0.24 percent), 3,744 are a pair (16.94 percent), and the remaining 18,304 are a high card (82.82 percent). A pair in front turns up about once in six deals, so a good front pair is worth protecting.

How ties inside a combination are settled

Two players can hold the same combination, so the next question is which one is higher. In each case the tie goes to the higher cards that make the hand up.

CombinationCompared by
Pair, two pair, three of a kindThe rank of the made set, then the kickers
Straight and straight flushThe top card of the run
FlushThe highest card, then the next, down the hand
Full houseThe rank of the three-card part
Four of a kindThe rank of the four-card part

An Ace can start the lowest straight, Ace to 5, and it then ranks below a 6-high straight. If the ranks tie completely, your table’s rules screen says whether the suit breaks the tie or the comparison is level.

Pusoy scoring: how the ranking turns into points

The ranking decides each of the three comparisons: your front hand against theirs, middle against middle and back against back. In the standard scoring you collect one unit for every comparison you win from an opponent and pay one for every comparison you lose.

JILI’s own page for its Pusoy Go title adds two multipliers on top. Winning all three comparisons against one opponent triggers a doubling called Pusoy, and winning all three against three opponents triggers a second doubling called Winner takes all. The stake and the exact unit value are set on the game’s rules screen.

If you want a different way to practise counting outcomes, the in between card game odds show the same deck arithmetic on a single three-card round.

FAQ

What is the Pusoy card ranking from high to low?

For single cards in the three-hand game the order is Ace, King, Queen, Jack, 10 down to 2. In the Pusoy Dos shedding game the 2 is the highest card. Read the rules screen of the table you open to confirm which order it uses.

Which suit is highest in Pusoy?

The common Philippine order is spades, then hearts, then clubs, then diamonds. A table may use suits only to break a tie between equal cards, or not at all. The table's own rules screen settles it.

Is a straight higher than a flush in Pusoy?

No. A flush beats a straight, a full house beats a flush, and a straight flush beats four of a kind. The counts on this page show why: a flush is the rarer hand, so it ranks higher.

Can the front hand hold a straight or a flush?

The three-card front hand can only hold a high card, a pair or three of a kind. Straights and flushes need five cards, so they belong in the middle and back hands.
